I can actually hold my foot in Natajasana without the strap. So, do I NEED a strap? ๐Ÿค”

One of the misconceptions about the use of props is we only use them if we cannot perform the pose.

It surely doesnโ€™t help when the teacher says, โ€œUse a strap if you canโ€™t reach your foot.โ€

The use of props can tremendously help to enhance our practice.

B.K.S. Iyengar says, โ€œProps help to perform asanas with ease. The students understand and learn asana faster on props as the brain remains passive.โ€

He also says, โ€œProps are guides to self-learning.โ€

When I perform King Dancer without props, I can at most stay for a minute.

And I cannot deepen within the pose as I would be stuck at my โ€œend rangeโ€.

And certain parts of my body will be working harder than the others, and itโ€™s hard to achieve equanimity in the pose.

Using a strap, however, allow you to

โญ๏ธ Build both strength and endurance in the posture, โญ๏ธ Distribute effort with all parts of my body to achieve and maintain better alignment; โญ๏ธ Stay longer and study the pose in a deeper level, and to stay longer and relax so I can fully benefit from the pose. ๐Ÿ™

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Props are to feel the asana. ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Props are meant to give a sense of direction, alignment, and an understanding of the asana.

When I practice this pose, I always use a strap and work on a 3-minute duration as I get deeper and refine the shape so I can eventually feel more ease and equanimity within the pose.

Give it a try. ๐Ÿ™Œ
