5 tips to refine your yoga teaching
𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴
Recently @victorchauyoga and I are getting together on IG to chat about yoga and teaching. 🙂
In this session, we’ll discuss 𝗙𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗬𝗼𝗴𝗮 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴.
I have been seeing a lot of new yoga teachers who have graduated from YTT and want to teach, but have not had the chance to “hone in their craft’.
If you are a new yoga teacher, here might be some of your questions:
“𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘸𝘦 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘰𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨?”
“𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘸𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯?”
Here’s what you need to know, similar to yoga:
👉 To get better at yoga, you need to practice the asanas.
👉To get better at teaching, you need 𝗣𝗥𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗖𝗘 teaching!
Experience is your best training.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲.
There are 2 parts to this “𝘙𝘦𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨” series.
1️⃣ Intention and Attitude
2️⃣ Language and Cueing
At times, navigating the new teacher space can feel pretty helpless. Don’t rush. 👌
It takes experience and time.
Seek support and help from mentors and teachers.
Remember, yoga is a lifelong journey both for you and your students.
As long as you focus on the LEARNING, both as a practitioner and a teacher, you are a good teacher, and you will get better at it. 🙌
