Dare to be different (and weird)

We are human beings. Feeling the need to belong is biological.

But when we just want to “𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨” and “𝘧𝘪𝘵 𝘪𝘯” we don’t want to be the odd one. We don’t want to be weird.

But that part of us is what makes us unique.

✨ It’s what makes us different.

✨ It’s what makes us stand out from the others.

✨ It’s what makes you… 𝗬𝗢𝗨.

I no longer want to be crowd-pleasers.

I no longer want to do the same thing as everyone does.

I don’t want to be normal.

I met this teacher over the summer. He loves music.

In his yoga class, he would play from classical to jazz to blues. He would switch music from calming to jazz during the water break in Hot26.

He would even make students guess the songs (and joke about giving a free hand towel for the right answer). Sometimes he would even ask if students want to sing along.

The first time I was like, “𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘰 𝘸𝘦𝘪𝘳𝘥….”. I was even a little repulsive.

A few classes later, I started to feel more okay with it and started to “play along”.

And at the end of one month, not only I have fully embraced his quirkiness, I realized it’s his humor and charisma that brings me back to his classes a few times a week. I am missing that today.

What makes you… YOU? 😊

Think about what is weird about you…

And be proud of it.

That is what actually brings people to you. 💫

Miss you Johnny. @yogasourcepaloalto
