GRATITUDE AS A YOGA TEACHER
We frequently look at what other people have or can do and then feel inadequate about ourselves. 😟
After reading Brene Brown’s Atlas of the Heart, here is her definition of comparison.
”𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘩 𝘰𝘧 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 – 𝘪𝘵’𝘴 𝘵𝘳𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘪𝘮𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘦𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘭𝘺 𝘧𝘪𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘶𝘵.”
According to the comparison, “𝘉𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘦𝘭𝘴𝘦, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳”.
Wow. That’s a powerful statement. 🙌
I recall feeling insecure as a new teacher.
When I saw the success of other teachers, I felt incompetent. I compared myself to others and desperately tried to keep up with or even be like them.
“𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘸𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦, 𝘸𝘦 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘤𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘰𝘹 𝘰𝘧 “𝘧𝘪𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘶𝘵,” 𝘪𝘯 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘴, 𝘸𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯’𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘴,” Brene added.
It’s a case of a “fit in but win” situation.
It can’t be good, can it?
We can’t pretend to be someone else. We can only be ourselves if we want to be authentic teachers.
👉 Stop trying to be other people. 👉 Stop trying to get what other people have. 👉 Stop the urge to compete.
We discuss the importance of practicing GRATITUDE. So, what does GRATITUDE mean to you as a yoga teacher? 🤔
As a yoga teacher, I believe that being grateful means being content with what we have rather than focusing on what others have.
Play your STRENGTH. Appreciate the GIFT that you already have and use them fully and wisely.
And when we allow this attitude to guide our actions, we will be the authentic teacher we want to be. ✨
