What is harder? To start something new? Or to start again? 🤔
I always find it challenging to start something again after a break.
The difference between starting something new and starting over is that when we start over, we have fewer assumptions.
We walk in empty-handed, like a blank page. 😔
So we have no expectations or judgment because we are supposed to be bad when we start something new.
There is also a sense of excitement about learning something new (we all like to learn!)
Starting over is different.
We had some experiences and therefore expectations.
I sometimes find it harder to start again, because I worry about how it was going to be different from before.
We tell ourselves it’s not going to be as good. We start to compare, judge, and self-criticize. For some people, it would stop them from starting again.
After two-term breaks over the summer, as well as some lower back issues I’m addressing at the moment, I’m returning to Backbend Intensive @mushinmovements.
It’s hard to start again.
When you find it hard to start again, 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳:
✨ We all go through ebbs and flows. It’s ok to come back.
✨ Growth is not linear. Sometimes we need to take a few steps back before going forward.
✨ Instead of comparing what you can do now and what you could do before, appreciate you already had some skills that you have worked hard on.
And those skills are still there. None of your previous work and effort is wasted.
So just come back. Start again, and again, and again. 😊

1️⃣ Do you find it harder to start new? Or start over?
2️⃣ What in your life have you taken a break or a pause, then decided to start again?
