WHY PRIVATE YOGA?

Yesterday I was reviewing the progress & setting up goals for my private students, & I was tremendously shocked (& impressed) with their progress.

Reflecting on this, I want to share a few things about why private yoga can be beneficial for students.ย

Lessons in a private setting can target a studentโ€™s specific challenges and needs. We work together to find an alignment that is appropriate for your body. To facilitate your practice, we also use a variety of props like straps, wall, blankets, chair, and many more.

Students have different needs and goals in their practice. In a private setting, we develop personalised plans to help you progress. I may assign homework, or record a sequence for you to follow along in between lessons. This structure also helps students to cultivate their own self-practice.

With studentsโ€™ permission, I would offer personal assist. I still remembered the first time I received a physical assist and that experience changed my practice. I am not talking about forceful adjustments.

I see touches as a means to โ€œ๐˜„๐—ฎ๐—ธ๐—ฒ ๐˜‚๐—ฝ ๐˜€๐˜๐˜‚๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜๐˜€โ€™ ๐—ฎ๐˜„๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€โ€ instead of helping students to get into poses. An assist, done well is magical.ย ย Whether itโ€™s the use of words or touch, assist is always a skill that I prioritise in my teaching.ย

Traditionally yoga was a more โ€œintimateโ€ relationship between a teacher and a student. Itโ€™s like a master and an apprentice. I am not saying I am a โ€œmasterโ€, but in a one-on-one context, I can connect with you more directly, which is sometimes challenging in a big drop-in class.

My expectation for students โ€“ You must be willing to commit to treating your practice as a discipline and do the work. If this is you, and if you are ready to reach the next level of your practice, Iโ€™d like to work with you.ย  Get in touch if you want more details.
